Over 350 new trees are in the ground at Weymouth's Tumbledown, ahead of the spring season.

In the last week alone, more than 50 volunteers have been helping with the planting.

That includes children from Southill Primary School and Westfield School as well as Weymouth College students and those working with The Lantern Trust.

Chair of Environment and Services Committee at Weymouth Town Council, Cllr Ryan Hope said:

“It’s great to see so many people getting involved and volunteering in the recent tree planting events at Tumbledown. Planting more trees is great for people, planet, and the wildlife they will one day support, and supports Weymouth Town Council’s commitment to tackling climate change.

“If you would like to get involved in planting more trees at Tumbledown, we are looking to welcome more people into this great community space to help out over the next few weeks.”

Over 350 trees have gone in at Tumbledown over the last week, with more to follow this Spring

The 27 acre former community farm is owned by Weymouth Town Council, and is being developed to become a designated community asset.

Fruit and veg is being grown on site, to be sold off locally, as well as creating a greenspace available for all.
