Police investigate last movements of man found dead on Portland

Police are trying to establish the last movements of a man who's body was found down cliffs on Portland.

The death of 59-year-old Warren Rutledge from Weymouth is not being treated as suspicious, but officers are carrying out enquiries on behalf of HM Coroner for Dorset.

At 7.33pm on Friday 29 July Dorset Police received a report of a body having been found down cliffs on the island.

Officers attended, assisted by the coastguard, to recover the body and investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Following enquiries, the body was formally identified as Warren Rutledge from Weymouth.

Police appeal

Detective Sergeant Claire Lloyd, of Dorset County CID, said: “Our thoughts remain with Warren’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“As is normal in these cases, we are now making enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office to establish the full circumstances and trace his movements leading up to his sad death.

“We are appealing specifically to anyone who saw Warren between Monday 11 July and Friday 29 July 2022 to please get in touch.

“Anyone who thinks they might be able to assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Dorset Police.”
