Police plea for residents to check home CCTV after fatal crash at Osmington Hill

A young motorcyclist died on Tuesday afternoon

Police are renewing their appeal for information after a young motorcyclist died in a crash at Osmington Hill near Weymouth.

Police have issued a plea for residents to check their home CCTV systems for any footage.

The collision happened at around 5pm on Tuesday (4 May 2021) on the A353 Preston Road at Osmington Hill. The collision involved a blue Yamaha motorcycle, which is was reported to have been travelling as part of a wider group of four motorcycles.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and very sadly the rider of the Yamaha - a man aged in his 20s from Poole - was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

Initial enquiries indicate the group of four motorcyclists travelled from Greenhill in Weymouth and along Preston Beach Road before travelling up to Osmington Hill prior to the collision.

Sergeant Rhys Griffiths, of the traffic unit, said:

"Our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who sadly died and we are continuing our investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision.

"To help our enquiries, I would urge any residents along Greenhill, Preston Beach Road and Preston Road up to Osmington Hill who have home CCTV systems that cover the road to please check their footage from around 4.30pm to 5pm on the evening of Tuesday 4 May 2021.

"I would be keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the group of four motorcyclists passing."
