How would you improve Weymouth's carbon footprint?

Weymouth Town Council is working to create a healthier, safer, and more sustainable future for the whole of Weymouth – and it's asking for the public’s views and ideas with an interactive online map

The impacts of climate change are already causing serious damage around the world. In response to the climate crisis, Weymouth Town Council declared a climate and ecological emergency and says it is committed to acting at a local level to reduce the council’s carbon footprint to net zero carbon by 2030.

The interactive Commonplace map can be used to give your thoughts on these questions and more.

Ideas generated so far include preserving and reusing buildings, installing more solar panels and restoring Weymouth's Park and Ride service.

Cllr David Harris, Leader of the Council and spokesperson on the Climate and Ecological Emergency, said: “Since declaring a Climate and Ecological Emergency, the council have been working to reduce its carbon emissions. We’re now asking the local community what local actions or changes they would like to see in Weymouth to counter climate change.

“To enable Weymouth to reduce its carbon emissions it will require us all to do our bit. We need your help to ensure our Climate Change Strategy meets the needs of our local community and reflects your priorities, so we’ve launched this survey to gather your views. Fill out the survey now to make sure your voice is heard.”

You can visit the Commonplace website to find out more about this project. The survey will run until 21st July.
