A new reduced speed limit is on the way for the approach into the Dorset village of Mosterton.

Signage will go up in mid-May to alert drivers of a 40 mph area on the northern side of the village, leading to the existing 30 mph zone.

The speed limit there is currently 60 mph, but the reduction's been secured for safety reasons, following a fatal collision in February 2023.

An auto speed watch camera's also been installed in Mosterton by Dorset's Police and Crime Commissioner, as part of a scheme to improve road safety across the county.

Drivers caught by the equipment are sent a letter, with police taking enforcement action if a second offence is recorded.

West Dorset MP Chris Loder says the speed reduction measures at Mosterton are 'meaningful solutions' to an ongoing problem

Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has welcomed the changes:

“I’m pleased that both Dorset Council and Dorset Police have listened to my representations to improve road safety in Mosterton and have responded with meaningful solutions.

"I’d also like to thank Mosterton parish councillors and all those villagers who have championed the road safety cause. We can expect the speed reduction buffer to be operational from the end of next month.”
