Axes, hammers and a knife have been seized by Dorset rural crime police officers, as they stopped a car travelling through North Dorset.

The vehicle was pulled over in connection with a report of suspicious activity in Gillingham.

Police found cloned number plates, and five weapons within the car and seized them.

They also recovered 18 tools, which officers believe had been used to carry out thefts.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The vehicle was also seized.

Searches have been carried out at addresses as part of the investigation, with help from police in Wiltshire and Avon & Somerset.

Items have been recovered during those checks, suspected to have been stolen from industrial sites.
