Weymouth Pavilion has been awarded £573,413 as part of the Government's £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure they have a sustainable future.

Weymouth Pavilion is one of 1,385 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support.

Further rounds of funding in the cultural and heritage sector are due to be announced over the coming weeks.

Since the theatre was rescued from demolition in 2013, Weymouth Pavilion has been committed to bringing live entertainment to Weymouth for over 7 years, but this was almost brought to a tragic end as the Coronavirus outbreak had a devastating impact on the live arts industry.

Weymouth Pavilion will be using the grant for on-going monthly costs, essential repairs and upkeep to the fabric of the building, continued support for community events and providing Covid safe entertainment.

Phil Say from Weymouth Pavilion

Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, said:

"I am absolutely delighted that the Pavilion's bid to the Government's Culture Recovery Fund has been quite so successful and I am grateful to the Department for selecting a most worthy cause and one that truly deserves this support in difficult times.

"Hopefully, this will enable Phil Say and his team to continue providing the invaluable service and venue to our community, which sees untold benefits for all ages and activities.

"This funding is testament to Mr Say's courageous decision to take on the Pavilion in the first place and I wish them well for the future."
