Weymouth Town Council has given cash to three local community groups to benefit local residents.

It's come from their Finance and Governance Committee.

Weymouth Bandits Basketball Club has been awarded £1,500 towards kits for their teams.

The Club has sections for nine year olds right up to adults, but not all of their teams have jerseys - and it's hoped they can encourage more people in the town to take up the sport.

Weymouth Bandits are among the groups getting support from the Town Council

£2,250 has been given to SPARK (Southill Park and Recreation for Kids) towards new LED lighting within a former youth club building that's being modernised for community use at the moment.

Weymouth and Melcombe Regis Bowls Club has been granted £1,650 for a refurbishment of their disabled toilet.

It'll be used to update the décor, and install a low level sink, rails and an accessible warm water heater.

Weymouth Town Cllr David Gray said:

“Supporting community groups with projects that directly benefit Weymouth residents is a real priority for Weymouth Town Council. We approved these applications at Finance and Governance Committee, and I would urge other community groups and charitable organisations to come forward and apply for funding to help get their ideas off the ground.”

Applications are open for further support from the Town Council - there's more details on their website.
