Man left with fractured skull after assault in Blandford

Weymouth detectives investigating a reported assault that left a man with serious injuries in Blandford are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report that at around 1.10am on Sunday (8 August), the victim – a man aged in his 20s – was walking through the car park of Morrisons in West Street when he was approached by a group of men and assaulted.

As a result of the incident he suffered a fractured skull and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not life-threatening.

Following enquiries by detectives from Weymouth CID, a 50-year-old man from Blandford was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Dave Barnes, of Weymouth CID, said:

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would urge anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I understand there were other people in the car park at the time of this alleged assault, including members of the public who came to the aid of the victim, and I would be keen to hear from anyone who was at the scene as they may have information to assist us.”
