Woman assaulted in Weymouth's Newstead Road

She suffered cuts to her face and hand in the incident

A woman's been assaulted in Weymouth, suffering cuts to her face and hand.

The victim, in her 20s, was attacked on Newstead Road, near the Abbotsbury Road junction, at around 7.40pm on Sunday (18th February).

It's alleged she'd been approached by a man who was known to her.

The man made off through the alleyway to Holland Road afterwards.

The woman was treated by ambulance crews at the scene but didn't need hospital treatment.

There's now an appeal for witnesses to contact Dorset Police.

PC Robert Coram, of Weymouth police, said:

“We are carrying out a detailed investigation into this assault and I am keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.

“I am particularly keen to speak to a young female witness who was walking nearby during the incident.

“Finally, I would also urge any residents in the vicinity with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, as well as motorists who were driving in the area and have dashcam fitted, to please check their footage and see if they have captured anything of relevance.”
