A bomb disposal team has been called out to a property at the side of the A7, between Langholm and Hawick, after "suspect materials" were found inside.

Emergency services swooped on the area following the discovery, and an area around the building has been sealed off.

The busy cross-border route has been closed around the area.

Police were called out to the property following a report of a disturbance around 11pm on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson said: "Police and emergency services are in attendance at a property next to the A7, south of Linhope, between Langholm and Hawick.

"Officers were called around 11pm on Tuesday, 9 May 2023, to a report of a disturbance and subsequently found suspect materials within a property.

"The EOD - Explosive Ordnance Disposal - are in attendance.

"As a precaution, a cordon has been put in place and the A7 has been closed between Langholm and Hawick. People are advised at this time to avoid the area and heed diversions.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disturbance and enquiries are ongoing.
