A 29-year-old man has died in a crash on the Dumfries bypass.

His Ford Fiesta collided with a Vauxhall Corsa near Dalscone Roundabout on the A75 around 11.30am on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

The 67-year-old female driver in the Corsa was unhurt.

The road was shut for more than 15 hours as police carried out crash investigatory work.

Police Sergeant David Kerr: "Our inquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road re-opened at 3am on Monday, 4 March. I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious collision.”
