The work of renowned photographer Diane Arbus is currently on display in Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries.

A collection of eerie and surreal images is on loan from the Tate and National Galleries Scotland Artist Room Collections, and will remain in the region until the 29th of July.

Often regarded as one of the greats of twentieth-century American photography, Arbus’s work has garnered attention across the globe.

A unique display

Dawn Henderby, Arts Officer at Gracefield Arts Centre says: “This body of work that she had, that she made, it recorded people on the fringes of society.

"She really got to know people, and she went to places that other photographers maybe would’ve overlooked.

“She really captured a very special essence in her work, I think that’s what’s added to it’s longevity, it’s why people are still interested in it over 50 years later, it’s really stood the test of time.”

The current Arbus exhibition follows a line of acclaimed displays made available in Dumfries through the Artists Rooms Programme, enabling people to view prestigious works without travelling too far.
