Last December, David Hyslop, van's windows and windscreen were still frozen when he was caught driving with a limited view of the road when he was charged with road traffic offences.

The 54 year-old man was convicted following a trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court last week where he received a twelve month driving disqualification and a £500 fine.

Police are hoping an instance like this will act as a reminder on the conditions of your vehicle during the winter months.

Inspector Gavin McHallum said: "It is absolutely vital that there is no snow or ice on your windows before you set off so please take the time to properly clear your vehicle because if you cannot see clearly you are putting yourself and others on the road at risk."
