Extreme E has unveiled details of its 'Hydro X Prix' course in Dumfries & Galloway, ahead of the latest instalment in the racing calendar. Drivers will be vying for top spot on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of May, when they will race around a former coal mine in Glenmuckloch.

Described as the most challenging Extreme E course to date, the Hydro X Prix is set to challenge drivers with narrow technical sections and difficult terrain. Corners have been named using Scots vocabulary including 'creag', and 'gleann' to describe the rocky hills and deep valley which make up the course.

Built on a social purpose, Extreme E looks to minimise environmental impact and highlight the effects of climate change, with electric ODYSSEY 21 SUVs helping promote a lower carbon future. The series encourages fans to look at the pressing environmental issues facing our planet, while also providing the world’s first gender-equal motorsport platform.

The technically challenging course will put drivers to the test

With tight stretches and plenty of sharp corners, competitors will be hoping for a good start. Ten teams will take to the course, racing to be crowned winner in the second instalment of the 2023 Extreme E calendar.

Tamara Molinaro, Extreme E Championship Driver, said: “This is probably one of the most extreme courses we have ever had. It will be quite a challenge because in some places it is quite narrow so it is hard to overtake, and the drivers will have to use their creativity to get those overtaking opportunities.”

“There are changes in the levels of grip, because there is grass, slimy gravel, and more rocky sections, forcing the drivers to change style at short notice. The weather is also going to be something that the drivers must really take into consideration. A lot of elevation changes will make it even more interesting, and I can’t wait to see what the course delivers this weekend.”

Round one of qualifying for the Hydro X Prix gets underway at 07:30 on Saturday 13th of May. Fans can tune into the action on ITV and STV, with streams also available on official Extreme E channels.
