Creative roadshow sets up in former home of Robert Burns

A creative roadshow is coming to Dumfries, celebrating local talent, and the work of legendary poet Robert Burns at the farm estate he built himself.

The event, which gets underway on the 12th of September, comes as part of a wider creative road show run by The Saltire Society, who describe themselves as an 'Independent Supporter of the Arts and Culture of Scotland.'

Local talents including singer Robyn Stapleton are set to perform, as will poet Hugh McMillan who is on hosting duties.

Dr Pauline Mackay, co-director of the centre for Robert Burns Studies at Glasgow University will also be in attendance, speaking on the famed poets legacy.

Organisers say they’re thrilled to be bringing the event to a location with such a strong cultural connection.

Situated on the banks of the River Nith, it's understood Ellisland is where Burns wrote many of his most famous works, including Auld Lang Syne.

Joan McAlpine is project director at The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust. She said: "We are delighted that the prestigous Saltire Society have chosen Ellisland and Dumfriesshire to showcase their work, and feature some fantastic local and national talent.

“It will take place in a barn built by Burns himself which makes it all the more special."

The event will run from 18:00-20:00. Organisers say anyone looking to attend must purchase a ticket online.
