Ali Mohammed Ahmed of Paton Street in Leicester was walking his dog to the shop on the evening of Thursday 4th January when it managed to get free and attack four people on Narborough Road close to the junction with Equity Road. Three of the victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

At a hearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court last Friday (9th February), the 51-year-old admitted to owning a dog that is dangerous and out of control. He pleaded guilty to three counts of the offence under section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

Ahmed was given a four-month sentence, suspended for 12 months, was ordered to pay £100 to each of the victims and is required to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also banned from owning any breed of dog for the next three years.

The dog which was a Cane Corso was seized on the night and taken to a secure kennel. It has since been put down following the investigation.

A 44-year-old woman has also been charged in connection with the incident and will be appearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court later this month.
