A man from Leicestershire is feared to have drowned in Italy after diving into the water to save his son who had got into difficulty.

Aran Charda, 51, hauled his 14-year-old boy to safety, but 'slipped beneath the surface', according to local media.

A rescue party's been searching the vast area since but there has been no sign of Mr Chada yet.

The British Foreign Office says it is aware of the incident. In a statement, it said: "We are supporting the family of British man who has been reported missing in Italy and are in contact with the Italian police."

The family - from Loughborough - were reportedly in Italy to celebrate Mr Chada's birthday on Tuesday.
