A Leicestershire mum is has warned parents about the importance of taking children for their eye tests.

It's after her 11 year old daughter Grace was diagnosed with a brain tumour in August after a routine eye test.

An optician found swelling behind her eye and sent her straight to the Leicester Royal infirmary.

It was later revealed that Grace was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.

However, Marissa Kelly from Oadby said Grace had no symptoms.

Grace's mum, Vanessa Kelly, said that hearing the news was devastating.

Raghavan Sampath, head of service for ophthalmology at Leicester's Hospitals, said:

"Cases like these are extremely rare, but also demonstrate the importance of regular eye tests for children and adults, so that any problem affecting the health of the eye, or the health of the person, is caught as soon as possible."
