Why do Nottinghamshire's beauty services have to close?

There's been anger from the industry as Tier 3 restrictions come into force

As Nottinghamshire goes into Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions, people in the beauty industry are demanding to know why they can't open their doors.

Under the new rules, all beauty salons, tattoo studios, nail bars and tanning salons have to shut - although hairdressers can stay open. This isn't the case in other Tier 3 areas where beauty services have been unaffected.

Businesses in the industry say they already follow strict hygiene rules, and are demanding to know what evidence was used when the decision was made to close them down.

The leader of Nottinghamshire County Council Kay Cutts was asked about the thinking behind it during a press conference with local media.

She said this was the advice from the government - and urged businesses to "just accept it":

The Director of Public Health at Nottinghamshire County Council, Jonathan Gribbin gave a separate press briefing this morning, where we asked him to clarify what evidence was used to make the decision.
