There's a stark warning from an East Yorkshire dad, after the sudden death of his son.

Jono Stead from Driffield was just 27 when he died in his sleep from a cardiac condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in December 2022.

Now his dad Dave has spoken out about the dangers urging people to get checked out.

Tragedy struck with no warning whatsoever

He told us: "One statistic that tends to stand out and shock a lot of people is that there are 12 people a week in that age bracket in the UK who die from previously undiagnosed heart conditions."

"To me that's a good reason to go and get yourself checked."

"He was quite driven and ambitious - he was well placed to do everything he wanted to go on and do."

"Tragedy struck with no warning whatsoever - which is often the case with these kind of things."

"That's one of the reasons why we've chosen to get involved."

The likes of chest pains can be passed off as a one off by a young person

"He spoke to various people on the day including myself and his mum Karen who was probably the last person to speak to him."

"He seemed fine - he seemed tired and he was going to go and catch up on sleep."

"It wasn't until later in the day it became apparent that something was obviously wrong."

"There can be symptoms such as chest pains during sport or exertion, things like palpitations, dizziness and fainting."

"It's something that a young and seemingly fit person would probably pass off as a one off kind of thing."

"But they can be symptoms of a problem."
