Hospitals across England, including in Hull, North Lincolnshire and Goole, are opening special clinics to help treat people with so-called long Covid.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) says some patients can suffer significantly for weeks and months after testing positive.

NHS England said patient referrals include those experiencing brain fog, anxiety, depression, breathlessness, fatigue and other debilitating symptoms.

What is long Covid?

Long Covid is the name that's been given to pro-longed coronavirus symptoms- it's though half a million people are suffering from them.

Experiences can look very different, with some previously fit and healthy people finding themselves short of breath, fatigued or with brain fog.

Dr Graham Burns, clinical lead at the long Covid centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, said: In the first wave of the pandemic many people did not recover as quickly as they'd expected.

"We had no idea what long Covid was - the world had never seen Covid-19 before."

"We set up the clinic in Newcastle to support patients, but it has also been invaluable in helping us understand what long Covid is."

NICE is due to issue official guidance on the best practice for recognising, investigating and rehabilitating patients with long Covid.
