Paralympics 2016: Queen praises athletes 'magnificent performance'

The GB team achieved their greatest gold medal tally since 1988!

The Queen has congratulated GB Paralympic athletes for their success at Rio 2016.

The Paralympics GB team won an incredible 64 golds at the Rio Games, and 147 medals in total. This is the most won by a British team since 1988!

In The Queen's message, she said, "As the 2016 Paralympic Games draw to a close, I offer my warmest congratulations to the athletes of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and indeed to the athletes of all Commonwealth countries, for their many successes in Rio de Janeiro.

"The magnificent performance of Paralympics GB this year reflects the talent and commitment of the athletes and their support teams.

"I send my good wishes to all those who have contributed to the success of these memorable Games."

The Paralympic medallists flew home earlier today and were all welcomed by fans and family at Heathrow.

Official parades to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic success of the GB teams will take place in London on 18 October!
