Lewis Ferguson will miss Euro 2024 after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Bologna midfielder was substituted after an hour during Saturday's 0-0 draw against Monza, having hurt it in a tackle.
Medical results have shown a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament.
It comes as a big blow to the Serie A club, who Ferguson captains, amid their push for Champions League football.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke will be equally frustrated, with the 24-year-old a key part of his squad.
The former Aberdeen player has been capped 12 times under Clarke and would have been on the plane to Germany.
He will undergo surgery in the coming days before discovering his recovery time.
Similar injuries to other top-level players have taken around six to nine months to return to full fitness.
Scotland begin their Euro 2024 campaign against hosts Germany on Friday June 14.
