Sam Smith has inspired fans by posting a candid, shirtless photo on Instagram revealing details of his battle with body confidence.

The singer tells of how he is fighting back and reclaiming his body, as he learns to love his 'chest', 'hips' and 'curves'.

The 26-year-old also opened up about his past, writing in his caption, 'In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a t-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down.' sic

Raking in close to 1 million likes in less than 24 hours, fans were quick to comment sharing their love and support, with one writing, 'Proud ❤️😍' sic, another writing, 'you are beautiful ❤️❤️🤩🤩' sic and another writing, 'Thanks for being brave and authentic' sic.

An emotional Sam then took to his Instagram Story to comment on his post, encouraging fans to tag him in their own pictures of body love and acceptance. He then went onto add to his story, 'These body confident pictures I'm being tagged in are GIVING ME LIFE!!!!!! So beautiful and strong and powerful. Please Keep going 💜' sic.

The 'Too Good At Goodbyes' singer is set to perform this year at The BRITs, as well as being nominated for British Male Solo Artist.
