Freddie Mercury: A life in pictures
A life well lived!
Freddie Mercury was one of the most talented singers and performers the world has ever seen. As lead singer of Queen - and as a solo artist - he had an incredible career and won over audiences around the world. His amazing voice and charismatic stage presence shone during live performances, especially at iconic shows like Live Aid in 1985 and Wembley Stadium in 1986.
After his tragic death in 1991 at the age of just 45, his friends and bandmates - Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor - organised The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert to celebrate his life, with many of Freddie's friends and fellow performers taking to the stage at Wembley on 20th April 1992.
Since then, the band have kept his legacy alive, and in 2022 they marked the 31st anniversary of his sad passing with a tribute post. Sharing a photo of Freddie on their social media pages, they wrote: 'Freddie Mercury 🖤 5th September 1946 - 24th November 1991'.

Freddie Mercury's early years
Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Stone Town in the British protectorate of Zanzibar on 5th September 1946. Here's Freddie as a baby. His parents, Bomi (1908–2003) and Jer Bulsara (1922–2016) were from western India.
Freddie Mercury's childhood
Freddie Mercury spent much of his childhood in India and attended St. Peter's School from the age of 8. Pictured is Freddie at St Peter's in 1958.

In 1964, Freddie Mercury and his family fled to England from Zanzibar to escape the violence of the revolution. They lived at two properties in Feltham, Middlesex before eventually settling at 22 Gladstone Avenue. Freddie Mercury exhibition at Sotheby's
In 2023 Freddie Mercury's closest friend Mary Austin (to whom Freddie left half of his £75 million estate) announced that she was finally selling his life's possessions, which had been stored in his Kensington mansion since his death. Before the auction, Sotheby's displayed the 1,500 items at an exhibition in London, with members of the public able to view Freddie's outfits, artworks, lyric sheets, instruments, furniture and more.
Fans were thrilled when they got the chance to hear Freddie's vocals on a previously unreleased song called 'Face It Alone'. The track came out on 13th October 2022, and comes from when the band were recording their 1988 album 'The Miracle'.
Roger Taylor said of the song: "We’d kind of forgotten about this track but there it was, this little gem. It’s wonderful, a real discovery. It’s a very passionate piece."
While Brian added: "I’m happy that our team were able to find this track. After all these years, it’s great to hear all four of us...yes, Deacy is there too...working in the studio on a great song idea which never quite got completed...until now!"
