The Sound of Music to return for UK tour in February 2020

The iconic musical, The Sound of Music, will return to the the UK to begin its UK and Ireland tour next year! After two performances in Dublin, the classic show will be taking in 10 venues across the UK, including Blackpool, Sheffield, Bradford, Wolverhampton and Sunderland.

And now the cast for the world-famous von Trapp family musical has been announced, including Coronation Street's Andrew Lancel, who will reprise his role as Captain von Trapp. The well-known role of Maria, famously played by Julie Andrews in the film adaptation, will be played by Emilie Fleming.

Emilie was a finalist on BBC One’s Over the Rainbow with Andrew Lloyd Webber and she has performed in the West End’s 20th Anniversary production of Les Misérables.

Also joining the cast will be Welsh soprano Megan Llewellyn, playing the role of Mother Abbess.

Speaking about the musical, producer Bill Kenwright said, "The music and narrative of The Sound of Music are timeless. It’s a beautiful story about family and hope. The score transcends generations and the songs are known and loved by everyone."

Of course, The Sound of Music isn't the only musical due to tour the UK next year, and fans of musicals can be sure to enjoy plenty of shows over the coming year.
