It's been on our TV screens since 1960 and it's loved by millions across the country, but it's being reported that some of Coronation Street's most-loved stars are being forced to take a 'pay cut'.

In new reports out today, some of the soap's longest-running characters, such as William Roache (Ken Barlow), Helen Worth (Gail Platt), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), will be affected, due to the fact they have old style contracts.

According to reports, bosses at Corrie have told some members of the cast that the 'older deals' are not the same as some of the soap's younger actors, with some of the higher-paid actors actually being on screen a lot less.

The news comes after Coronation Street lost out to rival soap Emmerdale in the Serial Drama category at this year's National Television Awards on Tuesday night. Despite having a number of amazing storylines over the last year, such as Sinead Tinker's cancer and Sally Webster's arrest, Emmerdale received more votes from fans.
