Will she be released after all?

Coronation Street fans have been left in anguish over poor Sally Metcalfe's current situation. In a storyline which distinctly harkens back to the days of 'Free Deirdre Rashid', Sally has been thrown in prison after being tricked into fraud by Duncan Radfield.

The conman, played by Nicholas Gleaves, first came into the show last year when he asked Sally for a council grant to set up a charity in memory of his dead wife, May. Of course, we all know what happened there - and here we are, with Sally rotting in prison for Duncan's fraud.

However, in upcoming scenes, viewers will discover that Nicholas' wife May is NOT dead, she's not even sick - May is found to be alive and well, which is a fact that could come in handy for poor old Sally.

According to the soap's official website, Sally's daughter Sophie Webster will see May at the hospital, most likely visiting her husband in hospital after he was accidentally run over in a showdown with Tim Metcalfe.

With Sophie and Tim distracted on the day, Sally's sister Gina takes it upon herself to save the day and question the woman to find out the story.

The website revealed, 'A furious Tim blames Gina and Imran for Sally’s wrongful imprisonment, whilst Sophie makes a shocking discovery at the hospital – spotting Duncan's wife May.

'With Tim now on a mission, can he prove that Duncan is a conman after all? Later, with Tim and Sophie distracted, the last role of the dice is down to Gina. Will she be able to save the day?'

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
