Call The Midwife fans were thrilled last weekend when the hit BBC drama returned for its 13th series, which also meant talented actor Daniel Laurie was back on our screens as Reggie Jackson.

Whilst we watch Daniel on the box, one thing fans may not know is that the 28-year-old actually has a very famous dad, who appeared in BBC soap EastEnders for a number of years!

Who is Daniel Laurie's dad?

Daniel's dad is the late Leslie Grantham, who played the iconic role of 'Dirty' Den Watts in 562 episodes between 1985–1989, and again between 2003–2005.

Leslie married Jane Laurie in 1981, before the pair went on to have three sons, including Daniel, Spike, and Jake. The couple then announced they were getting divorced in 2013.

Sadly, Leslie died in June 2018 following a battle with lung cancer.

As well as appearances in ITV/STV drama's Vera and Finding Alice, Daniel joined the cast of Call The Midwife in 2017, when his character Reggie sadly lost him mum, resulting in him moving to Poplar.

Daniel's character quickly became a series regular, moving in with his uncle Fred Buckle, played by actor Cliff Parisi, which led to him becoming a favourite with fans of the show.

Daniel, who has Down's Syndrome, previously opened up about his early life, saying: “I hated school. I was badly bullied and that made me walk out of school, but because of that, acting found me when I was 17.”

As well as Leslie being his dad, Daniel's mum is Jane Laurie, a popular actress who starred in popular 80s films The Last Place on East and The Return of the Soldier.

Speaking about how his mum was an influence on his acting career, Daniel said: “Luckily my mum Jane found an acting career for me, she was an actress.”

Call The Midwife series 13 airs every Sunday night on BBC One.
