Take That star Gary Barlow fronted a brand new TV series in November last year, taking his love of food, wine and travel to sample the delights in South Africa. Gary, who released Take That's ninth album 'This Life' along with bandmates Howard Donald and Mark Owen in 2023, appeared in five episodes on ITV/STV.

Will there be another series?

Following the success of series one, it was announced on Tuesday 10th December that ITV/STV bosses have commissioned the show for a second series, and now it has finally landed.

Gary Barlow said of the news: “I just had the best time filming in South Africa and was blown away by the response and people enjoying it so much. So to get to do it all again - and this time in Australia - is just brilliant! We have already started filming and I can already tell this is going to be an epic series.”

What will happen in series two?

Series two will be made-up of six episodes in total and will see Gary explore Australia with a host of new celebrity guests.

Gary and his celebrity friends will travel across North Territory, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, and together they will meet with a host of chefs and wine producers across the regions to learn more about the process and pairing local wines with the exquisite and simple-but-tasty food on offer.

Charlotte Davis, Creative Director at Rock Oyster Media said: “We are really thrilled to be working with Gary again on this new series. Gary brings such fun and warmth to everything he does, and I think viewers and fans of his will certainly enjoy everything we have planned for the Australian series… with some surprises along the way!’

Series two will have six episodes.

What channel is it on?

Gary Barlow's Wine Tour: South Africa aired on ITV1 and ITVX, and STV1/STV Player for viewers in Scotland.

Series two will air on the same channel.

What was series one about?

ITV say of the first series: 'Despite travelling the world as part of Take That, the multi-award winning singer songwriter has always had a soft spot for South Africa and now as a newcomer and an entrepreneur in the wine industry, Gary’s endearing love of the country extends beyond the epic landscapes and roaming wildlife.'

Gary himself has expressed his excitement over the show, saying: "I’m absolutely delighted to be exploring my passion for food, wine and travel in this new series for ITV. I’ve always loved South Africa and I can’t wait to really see all that it has to offer: the people, the places, its amazing history… and a glass or two of its incredible wine! This series is something that’s a bit different for me – but I can’t wait to get going.

"I’ve not really done anything like this on TV before… but I’ve absolutely loved it and I’ve literally been pushing everything else aside to try and do more."

ITV bosses added: 'Gary is set to start his journey on the Western Cape exploring the vineyards and learning about the variety of grapes, their sustainability, and what food is paired perfectly with each before driving through the breath-taking scenery.

'Joined by friends along the way, Gary will also head further North to embark on a safari experience of a lifetime and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, where he’ll discover a wine revolution is taking place!'

Who are the celebrity guests?

For series one, Gary was joined by a number of friends during the five episodes, including Jane McDonald, Ben Shepherd, Michaela Strachan, Eliot Kennedy and Mica Paris.

The celebrity guests for series two have now been revealed as Tim Minchin, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dannii Minogue, Andi Peters, John Bishop and Ronan Keating.

Gary said: "I was worried when it was decided the second season was going to be Australia; I was thinking, well how are we going to get guests for that? And actually, we had an abundance of people who were up for it. You don't realise actually how much of a travel corridor now Australia is, I think, definitely for us Brits.

"We love going there. So I had an abundance of British guests and amazing Australian friends that I've been friendly with for years, who all made time in their busy diaries and jumped at the chance to be with us. I've got to say, this show is the most fun to make of any show I've ever made. Traveling around, seeing these incredible places, drinking wine and eating amazing food. I mean, what could be better? It really is incredible."
