Greg Rutherford shares video of Dancing On Ice routine which caused freak injury

He had to pull out of the final

Olympian Greg Rutherford MBE was one of the favourites to win this year's Dancing On Ice, but just hours before the final on Sunday 11th March, bosses were forced to release a statement to reveal Greg had pulled out of the competition after suffering a freak accident in rehearsals.

The statement at the time read: 'Sadly Olympian Greg Rutherford MBE has had to withdraw from Dancing On Ice after sustaining an injury whilst in rehearsals for the final episode of the current series. Greg and Vanessa have been such a popular couple this series and have performed some truly memorable routines. We will be helping to support Greg and wish him well with his recovery. We also want to thank him for being such a treasured member of the Dancing on Ice family. #DancingOnIce'. (sic)

Since then, Greg himself has been updating fans on his recovery, and now he's shared a video of the routine which caused the injury.

After seeing a specialist on Thursday 14th March, Greg has now updated fans once more, explaining how he won't be able to skate for a couple of months, but he intends to get back on the ice when he can.

Writing on Instagram he said: 'This is the showcase we didn’t get the perform due to injury. The point where I dive through Colin and Brendyn’s legs is where everything went wrong last Sunday. This is from either Friday or Saturday so I was still ironing out a few timings issues (which I’m sure you will notice 🤣)

'I utterly loved this showcase. Everyone involved had worked so hard. Just look at the set too!! The guys behind the scenes never get enough credit, what they build in such a short amount of time is mind blowing.

'To have @torvillanddeanofficial choreograph a full routine for us too was so special. I loved working with them.

'Although I won’t be able to skate for maybe a couple of months. I intend on getting back on the ice and keeping it up. I really do love it.'

The news comes after Greg updated fans on Wednesday 13th March, admitting his stomach was 'in a bad way'.

Speaking in an Instagram video, Greg said: "Good morning everyone. Just thought I'd give you a little update. I'm moving around a little bit better today which is nice. Loads of people are asking exactly what happened. I will be able to give a full rundown tomorrow. I'm seeing a specialist to figure out a plan of action and everything else.

"But my stomach is not in a good way and it's going to need fixing. So that is what is going to be happening but I'll give you a full rundown of everything when I know exactly what is happening.

"I'm trying as well not to take too much of the co-codamol I've been given because it makes me sleepy but my stomach is not in a good way."

Greg and his professional partner Vanessa James were fan favourites throughout the 2024 series of Dancing On Ice, with many predicting they could go all the way to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

However, following his nasty injury on the morning of the final, the pair were forced to pull out of the competition, with Ryan Thomas and Amani Fancy going on to win the show.
