Appeal after teenager assaulted and subjected to homophobic abuse in Basildon

Police are investigating after a teenage boy was assaulted and subjected to homophobic abuse in Basildon.
It happened at around 4:45pm on the 15th of August, as the victim was walking towards the supermarket on Clay Hill Road.
He walked out of a tunnel when he saw a group of men and one of them shouted a homophobic comment to him.
As he neared the traffic lights at Southernhay, one of the group jumped off an orange bike and attacked the victim.
Several other men joined in with the assaulted, before a member of the public intervened.
The attackers fled in the direction of the bus station - they were wearing black clothing and balaclavas.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises.
Police are seeking witnesses or anyone who captured dashcam footage in the area at the time.
