A security guard service in Chelmsford is praising the actions of one of their door staff, who helped to save the life of a young man, who was stabbed outside their venue last month.

A young person was involved in the life-threatening incident outside Popworld Chelmsford in the early hours of March 24th.

Dominic Hewitt, from Regency Security, along with Sinead Ni Ghiolla Bhrighde, a member of the venue's bar team, came to help the man, using a Daniel Baird Bleed Kit stored at the club.

Without the lifesaving equipment, as well as CPR provided by Sinead and Dominic, the young man wouldn't have survived.

Caroline Brown, Commercial Manager at Regency Security, said: "Dominic and Sinead, who are the two very brave, quick thinking members of staff, actually ran to the aid of this young gentleman. They're training to be paramedics together, and have seen, obviously that he had incurred a stab wound.

"So between them utilising one of the Daniel Baird bleed kits, they performed life saving treatment on this young male, involving the use of the bleed kit, which stemmed the bleeding and also CPR.

"Without their swift actions without the bleed kit, I think that it would have had a much more tragic outcome."

Dominic and Sinead are training together to become paramedics, and acted immediately to help the young man.

Caroline told Greatest Hits Radio that Regency Security's staff receive training, but they hope their staff never have to use it.

"The unfortunate fact that they had to utilise any of those skills is is never an outcome you want. But the fact that they were able to deal with it so calmly, so swiftly. Yes, we're incredibly proud of all our team but particularly obviously Dominic and Sinead."

Dominic and Sinead have been recognised for their actions, awarded Certificates of Excellence, with emergency services commending their life saving actions.

Liam Taylor's Legacy

The Bleed Kit that was used was donated by Julie Taylor, of The Liam Taylor Legacy, after the fatal stabbing of her grandson Liam Taylor.

Liam died after a stabbing in Writtle in 2020, with his family fundraising ever since with the aim of preventing any further knife-enabled deaths, and to stop families like theirs from grieving.

It's the second kit donated by Julie to have saved a life in Essex.

Julie said: "Liam didn't die in vein. That's at least two people that have been saved without the other kits that have been used in Essex that we've supplied.

"We're just so grateful that the security guard was there, that he knew what he was doing, that he kept his cool, and they that boy's life and that's just absolutely amazing.

"When we hear they're used, it's terrifying, you think 'did it work? did it work?' and you hear yes, it has worked, and its just so good that there's not another family grieving like we are.

"We're so grateful to everyone involved."

Life saving kit

Julie and Caroline are both advocating for all businesses in a variety of industries to get Bleed Kits on their premises, which are registered to the premises, meaning emergency services know where they are located.

Caroline told Greatest Hits Radio: "They should be in every late night venue, staff should be aware of how to use them. You know, going forward companies such as ourselves should work with the likes of Julie Taylor to enforce that these kits are available to all."

As security guards, Regency Security aim to provide a level of safety and comfort among people, with their role proving vital in support emergency services and instilling a level of trust within the public.

Julie Taylor says she will continue to campaign for every premises in Essex and across the country to get a kit, as they have the ability to prevent further deaths, such as Liam's.

"The bags are needed absolutely everywhere, they are for every catastrophic bleed.

"There are just so many reasons, in Essex alone that I know of, and I've got kits all over the country, six of our kits have helped seven people and that's in fourteen months and that's what we know of."

"I'm just so grateful for every venue that hosts a bag.

"The guys that used this bag, just like the guys that used the other bags, are amazing. I thank them from the bottom of my heart that we haven't got another bereaved family."
