A person is in a serious condition in Colchester hospital after a crash on the A12, between Hatfield Peverel and Boreham.

It happened at around 11.50am this morning, heading south near Junctions 24 and 25.

Essex police attended the stretch of road where the two vehicles collided.

Both carriageways were closed while they investigated, recovered the vehicles, and repaired the road.

Essex Police said:

"One person has been taken to hospital in a potentially serious condition.

"We anticipate the southbound carriageway will remain shut into this evening’s rush hour.

"We will provide further information when we are able to do so and appreciate your patience and understanding."

They asked people to avoid the area and plan different routes to travel on.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“An ambulance attended a road traffic collision on the A12 close to Marks Tey just before 11.45am this morning. An adult man was transported to Colchester General Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Essex police added:

"If you saw the incident or have any CCTV, dash cam footage you can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm.

"Please quote incident 483 of 21 June."

UPDATE: The road has reopened in both directions as of around 6.20pm.

But, there are still queues.
