An East Anglian paramedic is raising thousands of pounds for a charity that supports those with Cystic Fibrosis.

Clinical lead and advanced paramedic for East of England Ambulance Service, Chris Martin, from Hertfordshire, will be running the London Marathon this weekend (21 April) for his son who was diagnosed with the condition as a teenager.

He's already raised his target goal of £2500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Chris says its an opportunity to use a hobby to improve his wellbeing and physical health, and to do something to give back to a charity that needs vital funding.

He said: “This year I managed to get in to run for a charity that is close to my heart. It's always nice to run for a cause that is meaningful to yourself. My son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis quite late on in life, only coming up to three years ago. So, this is a chance for me to raise some money to give back to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, who does a lot of research into how we can treat this condition.

“It's a genetic condition, so it’s not reversible. But there are great advances in science around how we can treat it and how we can try and reverse the symptoms to improve quality of life. It's just a way of helping to do what I can to give something back.”

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system.

It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK and has impacts on length and quality of life.
