Eight arrests made in cross-Essex operation targeting 'high harm crime'
Operational Support Group officers were drafted in to detain suspects for offences like rape and aggravated burglary.
Officers from our Operational Support Group (OSG) made eight arrests yesterday, locating suspects across the county for high-harm offences like aggravated burglary and rape.
The OSG supported officers across Essex Police with a number of operations yesterday, Friday 12 April, as well as carrying out proactive patrols across our road network to keep drivers safe.
Two men were arrested after the OSG detected a car they suspected was using false licence plates and signalled to the driver to stop. When the vehicle failed to stop, officers followed the vehicle and brought it to a stop. One was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving and the theft of a motor vehicle, and the other was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
OSG officers in Harlow arrested one man on suspicion of stalking and harassment, and another on suspicion of rape.
In Basildon, another man was located and arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Two men were arrested in separate incidents on our major roads, with one stopped and detained on suspicion of drug driving and possession of a Class B drug, and the other on suspicion of drink driving.
Another man was arrested at Stansted Airport on suspicion of drunk and disorderly behaviour and was also taken to Harlow to be interviewed.
Chief Inspector Anna Granger of the Operational Support Group, said: “The work the OSG carry out is different every day.
“The offenders we target and often violent or sexual offenders, who we are only able to find thanks to the hard work of colleagues across the force conducting investigations and working hard to solve crimes."
