Children have helped to plant 11 fruit trees in Clacton.

Around 20 students from Cann Hall Primary School joined staff from Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Open Spaces team to plant them near to Dorking Crescent.

The council has said it is part of their drive to plant more trees in support of the environment.

The fruit trees planted consist of a variety of eating apples and pear, and will take around a few years to reach maturity.

As well as providing blossom in the spring, they will also give fruit for both people and wildlife to forage for.

Michael Talbot, TDC cabinet member for environment, said the team looked forward to welcoming the students back when more planting can take place:

"It was great to see the students getting involved in planting these trees, as the younger generation will hopefully benefit from them for years to come.

"Having planted these, it’s now all of our responsibility to cherish and protect these trees which should stand tall and enhance the area for decades to come."
