While the annual pantomime has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, the team at the Princes Theatre is making sure the community won't miss out.

From 29th November people will see the venue in a completely new light, as it's turned into a synthetic ice rink.

It will be available for small groups to book for 45 minute sessions, to allow staff the time to clean between bookings.

The number of people allowed on the ice at any time will be a maximum of 17 and groups must not exceed six people, unless they're exempt under the Rule of Six policy.

It's hoped the ice rink will encourage visitors to do their Christmas shopping in the town.

Councillor Alex Porter, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism at Tendring District Council, said: "With the pantomime cancelled and ongoing restrictions to tackle Covid-19, we hope this attraction – which can run in a Covid-secure way – will spread some cheer at Christmas.

"We’re also looking to work with local businesses on sponsorship or offer opportunities, and while we’re encouraging people to start their Christmas shopping early this year we hope visitors to the rink go on to support local businesses while in the town."

The rink will be open between 29th November to 9th January 2021, with the exception of Christmas Day, and there will be themed nights on Thursdays.

Tickets have to be bought in advance, as they will not be available on the door.
