Firefighters today put out a car fire in a Lidl carpark in Maldon.

Photos from the scene showed smoke billowing across the carpark of the supermarket's Station Road branch.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Services confirmed they were called to the scene at 8:04am, where a Mercedes Estate car was on fire.

Firefighters used 2 hose reel jets to fight the fire, which they extinguished by 8:34am.

Watch Manager, Martin Cable, said:

“The fire was caused by an electrical fault in the rear of the car. As the driver pulled out of the car park, the warning lights came on and the car started to smoke”.

No other emergency services attended, and nobody was harmed.
