Fifty-one charities in the South East are benefitting from NFU Mutual’s £2m UK fund.

NFU Mutual’s agent and branch offices in the South East have nominated 51 local charities to receive a donation.

There has been a combined donation of more than £309,000 from a national £2m ‘Agency Giving Fund’ launched by NFU Mutual’s Head Office.

In response to the ongoing challenges faced by communities across the UK, leading rural insurer NFU Mutual announced £2.75m of funding for local and national charities in 2021.

As part of this initiative, the insurer has donated £2m to local charities through its Agency Giving Fund to help charities across many sectors to keep their life-changing services going throughout the pandemic.

To ensure these donations reached all corners of the UK and were directed where they’re needed most, NFU Mutual’s agency offices and branches were given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund.

NFU Mutual have over 300 locations nationwide, and all £2-million has now been awarded across the UK.

The funds have been issued over 16 weeks from the end of February, offering support as lockdown measures continue to impact our communities.

One of the charities to benefit in the South East was Pilgrims Hospices, nominated by the Canterbury agency. The donation will enable the charity to help people facing incurable illness to live well in every moment.

Colin Campbell, NFU Mutual regional manager for South East, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities.

“Charities like Pilgrims Hospices are making a wonderful difference to communities across the South East in these challenging times, and we are proud that our agents have nominated a wide range of local causes to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”

Leila Ilkhan, Community Fundraising Manager, at Pilgrims Hopsices, said: “ We are extremely grateful for the generous support that NFU Mutual Canterbury have shown to Pilgrims Hospices.

“With 80% of our funding coming from voluntary donations we simply wouldn’t be able to continue delivering the vital work to patients living with a terminal illness and their families without the support of our community. A huge thank you from everyone at Pilgrims Hospices for helping us to continue being there for those who need us care and support.”
