Essex Police have enacted a Section 60 in Harlow, after reports of criminal activity including "incidents of violence".

The force say the order, which enhances officers stop and search powers within a specific area, was enacted last night (January 24) and will be enforced until 9:20pm this evening (January 25).

Members of the public are likely to see more officers in the area whilst the Section 60 is in place, and those with concerns or information on any criminality or anti-social behaviour are still asked to report it to Essex Police.

Chief Inspector Paul Austin, Harlow district commander, said: “You will notice an increased police presence in Harlow tonight as my officers continue their efforts to keep the community safe.

“This follows a number of reports including several incidents of violence.

“These orders are a useful tool which can enable us to effectively monitor areas of concern and prevent any further disorder where issues arise.

“We are here to help you, so I would continue to urge residents in Harlow to report any suspicious activity to us.

“I would also like to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to prevent any further offences from taking place.”
