Adam Mayes appeared yesterday before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court where he admitted breaching a Violent Offender Order.

The interim order was issued in November last year, this barred him from contacting or being in the vicinity of a specific person.

On the 24th of January the North Domestic Abuse Problem Solving Team were alerted to an ongoing emergency call involving Mayes. He was then arrested on suspicion of breaching the V.O.O.

He had previously served time behind bars for seriously injuring a woman.

He'll appear again at Chelmsford Crown Court on 22 February.

Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson, who leads the police domestic abuse teams in north Essex, said:

“Adam Mayes is a serial abuser and he is serially violent. His behaviour is not tolerated in Essex.

The interim VOO which we secured last year means we have been able to pursue him for a breach, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Our domestic abuse teams work tirelessly to protect people at risk of harm from people like Mayes; people who have continually shown they are unable to change, or have no interest in changing, their behaviour. These teams closely monitor those people who we believe pose the highest risk and we do that because we want to protect people.

This conviction is the result of determined work from a number of teams across the force, including the North Domestic Abuse Problem Solving Team (DAPST), supported by officers in our Crime and Public Protection Police Order Enforcement Team (POET) and our legal department."
