Teenage girl approached by man in Witham

He made inappropriate comments to her and tried to touch her arm

There will be visible police patrols in Witham, after a 16 year-old girl was approached by a man.

The girl was walking along Conrad Road, near to the Cherry Tree pub, at around 11.25am yesterday (23 June) when a man approached her.

He made inappropriate comments to her and when he tried to touch her arm she ran away.

The man has been described as white, in his 60s, between 5ft 11ins and 6ft tall, with a ‘salt and pepper’ beard and wearing a red waterproof coat, and white trainers.

Essex Police has said their investigation is ongoing and officers have been carrying out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries.

A spokesperson said:

"We know this will be a concerning incident and we will have visible patrols in the area."
