A year on from the murder of a 46 year old man in Basildon, police have issued a fresh appeal for information to help catch the killer.

Terry Leeks was fatally injured in Northlands Park at around 1.35am on Sunday 11th July last year.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police believe he may have been buying drugs but haven't worked out why he was attacked.

DCI Louise Metcalfe from Essex Police is leading the investigation: "Everyday that goes by is a day with no justice for Terry's family. He was cruelly taken from them far too early."

She's urging anyone with information to come forward: "We know that the community has the answers. There is a murderer out there and we need them behind bars to bring the family justice...

"The don't have answers which is the hardest part. Answers won't bring Terry back, but they will help the family to move on to the next chapter in their lives."

So far, 13 people have been arrested in connection with Terry’s murder.

Four of them – two boys aged 15 and 17 and two men aged 19 – were released under investigation.

Nine others have been told they face no further action.

In November last year, the charity Crimestoppers offered a reward of up to £10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Terry’s murder - this has now been increased to £20,000.
