Councillors to vote on motion backing bus franchising in Glasgow

Councillors in Glasgow will vote later this week on whether to back a motion to support franchising the bus network across the city.
It's being brought forward by SPT board member Malcolm Mitchell who also represents Garscadden/Scotstounhill.
He told Greatest Hits Radio: "We are the biggest local authority and our role should really be to assist in any way we can to make this happen.
"Those who elected us are crying out for improvements in our network.
"I think it is obvious to anyone who uses these services that the current situation just cannot go on any longer."
Franchising these services would make someone responsible for buses which are late or do not show up at all.
Earlier this month, board members at SPT decided to open a six-week consultation on franchising.
Malcolm added: "It is important to make it clear that we need a change in who controls these buses.
"There is a huge imbalance at the moment - the operators have so much power and those of us who do have some power in terms of making legislation do not have any control over this.
"This is about shifting the dial and making a difference."
