Police appeal for help after serious crash in South Lanarkshire

A BMW X3 lost control and collided with a wall on the A70 Ayr Road

Officers are appealing for witnesses following a serious one-vehicle crash in South Lanarkshire.

The incident happened around 5.55am on Wednesday, 31 January, 2024 on the A70, Ayr Road, between Rigside and Hyndford Bridge, Lanark.

A grey BMW X3 was travelling east when it appears to have lost control and collided with a wall. The 52-year-old male driver was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow for investigation and recovery of the vehicle.

Sergeant Chris McColm of Lanarkshire Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the crash to get in touch.

“We are also asking anyone who saw this vehicle prior to the crash or anyone with dashcam footage or any other information which may assist to come forward.”
