Community projects across Glasgow are getting a share of £6m from the UK Government to support children and young people.

Castlemilk Youth Complex is one of 17 organisations to be awarded a funding boost and will receive £204,077 to encourage young people from deprived backgrounds to take up a career in the arts.

The programme will engage with people from the area to help them get a place at university or college.

The team at Eco Drama Glasgow is also getting £200,076 to get children across Townhead and Pollok interested in nature.

Founder Emily Reid told Greatest Hits Radio: "We will be creating a nature themed programme which will include theatre, tree planting and fruit tree planting.

"We want to build skills, confidence and resilience in the young people we are working with."

The team at Eco Drama has created a show called The Forgotten Orchard.

It's hoped the group will re-visit an Orchard they planted in Townhead back in 2013.

Emily added: "Ten years on and it is still blossoming.

"We will also be planting another orchard in Pollok as well as 20 school orchards across the city.

"We will also show children our charismatic production of The Forgotten Orchard which tells the story of the Clyde side Apple and the Scotch Dumpling.

"It is so important that we ensure people can have a fresh supply of apples on their doorstep for generations to come."
