Councillors in Glasgow are pushing ahead with their promise to improve visibility in Queen's park at night following pressure from the Light The Way campaign.

A single lamp post powered by the sun is being tested next to Balvicar Street play area and they will consider introducing more if the trial is successful.

Ruairi Kelly is the Convener for Neighbourhood Services and told Greatest Hits Radio: "We want to find out if there is enough light during the day time in winter to charge it for the evenings.

A perception of safety

"We also want to know if it gives off enough light at night to see if it increases the perception of safety when people are using the park.

"We will potentially roll it out to other areas like play parks which need more lighting than just way finding lights."

Last month we told you about cat's eyes going live on the ground in Kelvingrove Park.

Our reporter Callum McQuade took a trip down to ask dog walkers and runners about their thoughts.

One man said: "I think these are a pointless endeavour because they show cyclists the route, but pedestrians cannot see any further forward than a few metres."

Another said: "I feel like it is much easier to go through the park now and I hope they introduce more."
