Glasgow man raises almost £15k for charity after 14 years of Movember
Ross Haggerty says sporting the charity moustache can start important conversations
Clyde 1 News is hearing that Movember is not only the perfect opportunity to grow some facial hair - but a way to start important conversations about men's mental health.
Ross Haggerty from Burnside has taken part in the challenge every November for the last 14 years, raising almost £15,000 for suicide prevention charities.
The 43-year-old has earned himself the title of Movember Ambassador.
Movember is an annual fundraising event when people around the world grow moustaches in the month of November.
The challenge is done to raise awareness for men's mental health, suicide prevention, both prostate and testicular cancer.
Ross tells us his "dodgy moustache" can often be a bit of a laugh - but that there is a serious message behind the whiskers.
He said: "I think my wife rolls her eyes every November - she says, 'can you just not have a moustache for one year?'
"But I love it, I love it every year and what it does.
"I honestly look forward to it more than Christmas.
"It's an amazing charity, and it takes it away from your traditional bucket and asking people for their spare change.
"It gets everybody involved, and it's a good laugh.
"Nobody used to speak about testicular or prostate cancer because you were afriad.
"Even just asking someone 'are you okay?', all these things were largely unspoken and we're talking about getting it out in the open.
"The moustache does generate those important conversations."
